The Government of Norway has announced the list of scholarships available to international students and researchers from 16 countries, including Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Tajikistan. These scholarships are funded by Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) and are aimed at pursuing full-time undergraduate or postgraduate studies at recognised institutions in Norway. The scholarship will cover the full cost of tuition fees and living expenses as well as provide an additional allowance to cover travel costs.

What is funding with scholarships?

A scholarship is an award of financial aid for a student to further education. A scholarship may be awarded on academic, artistic, athletic, or other grounds. You can apply scholarships in academics fields and get your studies done in Norway.

Who can apply for Norway Scholarships for International Students?

– The applicant must be a non-EU/EEA citizen. – Applicants must hold a high school certificate or equivalent qualification and at least 1 academic year of higher education is needed in order to be eligible. – Applicants are expected to have good knowledge of English (level B2) and adequate knowledge of Norwegian language (the higher your level, higher your chances). – Recipients will have to study full time in Norway on Bachelor level.

What are the requirements for applying?

All applicants must be undergraduate students at least 18 years of age by 1st September 2018. All applicants must also have a residence permit that allows study in Norway. Those from countries where Norwegian is not an official language (e.g. India) are also required to provide proof of proficiency in Norwegian or English if they are applying through one of our partner universities. There are numerous websites to check out when you’re looking for international scholarships. The best place to start is with national governments and organizations such as: Scholarship4Africa and International Youth Foundation . Many of these organizations list open scholarships on their site as well. Depending on your field of study and country, there are also foundations that cater specifically to that area. For example, if you’re studying engineering in a developing country, African Technology Foundation has scholarship opportunities available.

How do I apply for Norway Scholarships for International Students?

The application form is available on-line here: www.eng.uio.no/english/scholarships/, or you can pick up an application form at our office (Old Main building – floor 2). If you are awarded a scholarship you will be expected to enroll as a student at The University of Oslo in January 2022 and attend lectures throughout spring semester 2022 and complete your studies in autumn 2022.

Are there any upcoming deadlines?

Yes. For students applying to a master’s program at Norwegian institutions in 2022  there is an October 31 deadline (with exact application deadlines depending on university). Some scholarship programs have separate application dates and often require additional materials (essays, etc.).
