Do I need a GPA above a certain level?

To apply for a scholarship, a student does not need to have a minimum GPA. In fact, we encourage those who may not have an A average to apply because we feel their experiences and perspectives are important and can help enrich our campus community. The only requirement is that you are enrolled at UM-Dearborn full time (for 12 credits) in both fall 2019 and spring 2020. Applicants must be entering as incoming freshmen or already be students at UM-Dearborn.

How long should my resume be?

No resume is a certain length, but in general it’s important to follow these rules: a one-page resume for entry-level candidates (no prior experience); two pages for experienced professionals; and three pages or more if you have 15+ years of experience.

What are the most important things I should write about in my essay?

Write about why you want to be a student at University of Michigan, Dearborn. Why is it your first choice? What are you planning to study and what do you hope to accomplish while there?

If I am applying for multiple scholarships, what should I do?

It is a great idea to apply for as many scholarships as you can. The more scholarship applications you submit, the higher chance you have in receiving at least one award and one gift! Get started early on in your search, as most scholarships have due dates that fall within a few months of each other. For example, if I am applying for an early April deadline and also an October 1st deadline, I would start my search mid-summer to make sure I have time to complete everything by these deadlines.

How many scholarships can I apply for at once?

You can apply for as many scholarships as you’d like, but know that some scholarship providers don’t allow you to be considered for more than one award at a time. Once your application is submitted and reviewed, though, your information will be saved. Be sure to keep track of all receipts and documents related to scholarship applications in case you do win. There’s no need to submit multiple applications if you are eligible for any extra consideration that requires an update or addition. Just contact them.

How many interviews will there be?

There will be a total of three interviews for University of Michigan Dearborn Scholarship: The first is with a representative from our financial aid office. This interview gives you a chance to ask any questions you may have about how scholarship funds are handled. The second interview is with your academic advisor, and gives you an opportunity to discuss your course schedule for next year.

What if I don’t get selected for an interview or don’t win the University of Michigan Dearborn Scholarship?

It doesn’t hurt to apply! It also means you have more time to prepare. This can be a helpful process. If you win an interview, it gives you an opportunity to showcase your strengths and how they fit with that specific school. This could potentially lead to being accepted earlier into college than if you applied with a regular decision application. If you don’t get selected for an interview or didn’t win a scholarship, try again next year!
