#1 Thomas M. Ryan Scholars Program
The Ryan Scholars Program was established to develop future leaders and empower them with the confidence, courage, and competence to face the world’s most challenging problems. The program educates a diverse group of scholars in values-based leadership by combining rigorous academics with transformational residential experiences. In addition to meeting all university general education requirements, Ryan Scholars are fully prepared for success at selective colleges or universities and have the opportunity to pursue a career path in public service.
#2 Alfred J. Verrecchia Business Scholars Program
The Alfred J. Verrecchia Business Scholars Program is currently open for applications from sophomores in any major.
Applicants should be involved in school and/or community activities, demonstrate strong writing skills, and be committed to personal professional development.
Qualified candidates will have a financial need, which will be considered when awarding the scholarship.
#3 University of Rhode Island Presidential Scholarships
The University of Rhode Island Presidential Scholarship is awarded to undergraduate freshmen and sophomore students who are judged to be the most highly qualified academically, both in terms of their previous academic record and their ability to benefit from the unique opportunities at URI. Awardees demonstrate exceptional leadership skills, creativity, intellectual curiosity, a strong work ethic, tolerance for difference and diversity, an awareness of sustainability issues and an appreciation for global perspectives.
#4University Of Rhode Island Scholarships NNEBC
We are excited to announce the start of our NNEBC Scholarship Program for incoming freshmen or transfer students! This scholarship program is being offered in partnership with each member company. Our goal is to provide students with access to higher education and opportunities that will change their lives forever.
#5 Stephen Philips Memorial Scholarship Fund
If you’re a Rhodeian resident, URhode Island student, or have a child who is attending the university, you may be eligible for this $1,000 award. Applicants are asked to submit a letter detailing their interest in higher education and at least one form of documentation from an educator that demonstrates progress towards graduation. All applicants must also meet income eligibility requirements and have never been convicted of a felony charge.
#6 URI Merit Scholarships
The URI Merit Scholarship is one of the university’s oldest scholarships. Renewal of these University Of Rhode Island Scholarships requires a 3.0 cumulative GPA and is open to all full-time undergraduate students with freshmen or sophomore standing in good academic standing at URI.
#7 The Roothbert Fund Scholarships
The Roothbert Fund, a memorial fund established by Gordon and Frances Roothbert, provides University Of Rhode Island Scholarships for undergraduate students who are graduates of elementary or secondary schools in the Capital Regional District. Awards are competitive and may vary depending upon merit, need, ethnic background and geographical distribution. The applicant must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant attending university in Canada and show evidence that he/she has completed grades 8-12 at an approved secondary school in the Capital Regional District. #8 Timothy S. and Palmer W. Bigelow, Jr. Scholarships
The Bigelow brothers are descendants of John Bigelow, one of the state’s original signers to the Declaration of Independence. The brothers endowed $500,000 to URI to provide scholarships for deserving undergraduate students who cannot afford college without them.
The awards are made on a renewable yearly basis in accordance with performance criteria.
#9 Women’s Opportunity Awards
WOA was established in 1990 as a means to increase the participation and success of women students in the College of Business Administration. All undergraduate students at URI are eligible for this award, and it’s based solely on need. Women who would like to apply must be a current full-time or part-time URI student enrolled in a business degree program and demonstrate financial need. The application deadline is May 31, so don’t miss out!
#10 Leadership Awards
Applicants must be a current resident of Washington County and have completed his or her junior year in high school with a minimum 2.5 GPA and above. Leadership Awards scholarships are awarded based on service, volunteerism, leadership, academics, and financial need. Deadlines to apply are March 1st and October 1st each year. #11 Rural Student Initiative
If you’re a student from an underrepresented, rural area who wants to earn a degree and be change-makers in your community after graduation, the Rural Student Initiative might be for you. There are scholarships available for both undergraduate and graduate students. The requirements include filling out an application, supplying a letter of recommendation, and submitting transcripts or test scores.
#12 Study Abroad Program
Are you an undergraduate seeking funding for a study abroad program? Consider applying for this scholarship to experience the world through an immersive overseas experience. Apply by February 15th, 2018 to be considered.

#13 University Honors Scholar Award
The scholarship, which is awarded to a select number of freshmen and transfer students annually, awards academic excellence. The recipient is selected on the basis of grades and independent studies, as well as SAT or ACT scores. This prestigious award covers tuition for four years and includes a $5,000 enrichment stipend for study abroad or internships in each year.
URI scholarship requirements
- The URI Scholarship Office offers a diverse selection of scholarships that are available for incoming students, including Early Admission scholarships.
The Dean’s Award, James F. and Marion L. - English Grant is a renewable award that is open to high school seniors who have been accepted into the freshman class for fall 2022. Applicants must apply for early admission in order to be eligible for this scholarship opportunity.
- The award is calculated at $400 per semester and up to six semesters are available (max $2400). This scholarship will not reduce any other financial aid a student has earned or received, but it cannot exceed 100% of the tuition cost.
